Review Guides for Xbox 360 250 GB Kinect Bundle
Absolutely Fantastic!
By Jeff Magill (Los Angeles, CA)
I only found out about Kinect a few weeks ago. After reading a few of the preliminary reviews, I had been intrigued enough which i pre-ordered it almost immediately. Being a gadget nerd, I ordered this bundle despite already having an Xbox360, because I wanted the larger hard disk, the quietness from the new console (whisper quiet!!!!!), and the built-in wireless. The new design is fairly sweet too. Overall a fantastic console. I'd recommend upgrading.
Kinect? ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!!!!! I have read countless reviews on Kinect. And also the more I read the more leery I was getting about my pre-order. Most of the reviews complained about lag, or even the space requirement, or that the games were simply regurgitated Wii games, and just how every game title ever developed wasn't re-developed for Kinect on launch day. WTF?
Unplugged the old Xbox360, connected the ability supply towards the new 360, connected the HDMI cable (forget about adapter required), connected digital audio cable, set the Kinect under my tv, plugged it in to the Xbox, turned it on and it's go time. A couple of minutes of setup was all it took, establishing the wireless connection, entering your Xbox Live info, and some update downloads. Very painless process.
We moved the coffee table out of the way and moved the couch back a few feet. Sorry, if you're living in a $2,000 per month, 400 sq. ft. NY studio, this isn't the game for you personally. But fortunately for Microsoft, many people think having to make use of your kitchen sink as your nightstand isn't acceptable living conditions, and so i completely dismiss the area requirement "problem". The front from the couch is normally right at 8 feet in the TV, but because a couple of us would be playing, we moved it back a couple of more feet so that we'd be standing at the 8 foot mark. It worked perfectly, and actually for some from the games we played we moved as close as maybe 3-4 feet from the TV. So I think you could easily cut the 8 feet down to 6. 6-8 feet is usually recommended in the documentation.
We played Kinect Adventures first, the sport that comes in the box. Wii-like? Yes. Fun? Soooooo much more fun than any Wii game I've played. That Kinect can track every single move -- both hands, head, arms, feet, hips, EVERYTHING -- is simply amazing. No controller can detect whether you're moving side-to-side, or backwards and forwards, or squatting or jumping yet still time moving your arms. It is simply brilliant how good Kinect works.
One game in particular really shows the potential for it. You're in an underwater tank and crazy fish keep poking holes in the glass. You need to plug these holes to help keep the water from arriving. In some cases I had to use both hands, both your feet, and my head to plug all the holes...yes, all simultaneously. The girlfriend and I were built with a blast with it. Another games were just like fun.
I believe Your Shape best highlighted what Kinect is capable of doing. You are an infrared replication of yourself on the screen. The shape of my body system was precise (unfortunately) also it even picked up the emblem around the t-shirt I had been wearing. There are numerous exercises that you can do and also you follow together with an instructor. You need to stay in sync with the intructor to earn points and advance to higher levels and the Kinect does an incredible job of following every movement and comparing it to the instructor. Not spreading the feet far enough apart? It'll tell you. Not keeping the best rhythm? It'll let you know. It's so a lot more immersive than anything I've played around the Wii and that i can now actually see myself doing all of your Shape instead of going to the gym. It's really fantastic.
A lot of the reviews were not impressed with lag, meaning it requires a bit for that Kinect to detect your movements and get them on the screen. Can there be lag? Yes, as measured in fractions of a second. Is it noticeable? Only if you're specifically focusing on it. But it's not noticeable during actual game play because you're focusing on the sport. Just like using the Wii, you quickly learn to make amends for that fraction of the second difference. It's an absolute non-issue!!!!!
All-in-all, playing three titles (Kinect Adventures, Kinect Sports, and Your Shape) over a span of a couple of hours, the girlfriend and I were exhausted, exhillarated, and surprised about the experience. My girlfriend, being a typical girl, whose life isn't defined by gadgets, even posted on FB that the Kinect is really AMAZING! It a lot more than exceeded our expectations and I couldn't be happier with the purchase. And I am absolutely ecstatic about what Kinect method for the way forward for gaming. Fully immersive Cod? Yeah, it's coming!
Absolutely love it

I have owned numerous xbox 360's since they came out. I Started with the original 20 gig, and after having some issues with some accessories with it (the intercooler i bought literally melted into the back of my 360) and so i upgraded to the Elite. I loved the console, and not once had an issue by using it. but there have been always some negative reasons for it, including the noise, how big the power brick, and how hot the games would reach times while playing. I only bought this at midnight however i can say its great to date, and you save 50 bucks through getting this bundle.
What i love to date:
- love the new look. my elite was black, however the console was bulky. the new one has a sleek design and is smaller sized.
- The touch sensitive buttons are cool, you don't even need to press.
- The ability brick is a lot smaller, leaving a lot more room.
- The xbox is a lot more quiet
- 3 USB hookups is great
- 250 gig hard drive is i'll ever need.
- The kinect is just amazing. works extremely well, recognized my every movement and voice command. the is certainly next gen gaming. Its just awesome. already used video chat, and the camera actually follows you around, whether you decide to go down or up or anywhere. i am unable to wait to make use of it more
Coolest Video Game System Ever
By Thom Mitchell (Providence, RI USA)
Being gaming since the days of the Atari 2600, the Xbox using the Xbox Kinect are certainly the coolest advancement in game titles ever. My whole family, from kids to grandparents, can take part in the games and revel in them, having the ability to play and watch movies without digging for that remote is awesome and we really like the playing together. Setup really was simple and straight-forward and that we were playing games in a few minutes.
We own a Wii, even though it is okay, the amount of involvement and engagement just can't rival the Xbox Kinect. As there is no remote for Kinect - you won't ever have to worry about whether or not the batteries are charged. More importantly the games are definitely more fun and addictive. Obtain the Xbox and Kinect - you will be glad you probably did.
Kinect - The next generation in Gaming, Kids give it 6 starts,
By Ed Moore
This is actually the first time I have written a review, but feel that this product deserves your time and effort. To put it simply this product deserves 6 stars.
We're a Wii owner and have been with them since it first came out. We have about 8 games around the Wii coupled with tried on the extender regularly. I liked it since it actually involved my kids moving and that i felt they were given some exercies. All my 4 kids 13-6 and half boys/girls are extremely active and very athletic, so game titles are not something they spend a ton of time doing. This product might change this. I usually wondered why Microsoft didn't to produce motion controller for the xbox, it seamed like this type of simple thing to do. Sony just did this and it is an incremental improvement within the Wii. Initially when i first learned about the kinect I was somewhat skeptical. Now I know why Microsoft didn't to produce me to product, the Kinect reaches least a generation in front of the Wii and Sony and can provide them with dominance in this marketplace for several years in the future.
I have seen this kind of technology approach before, and it was very tempermental and normally did not work. I am a technical person and have researched the technology behind this which is simply amazing. There are 2 cameras, 1 IR emmitter, 4 microphones and a motor, as well as the program that is behind this. The very fact they could bundle all this technology into a $149, $100 when bundled, priced device is amazing. I had been somewhat worried it would be tough to set up, nothing might be further from the truth. I basically plugged it in and then it downloaded several updates and that i was all set. The games provide brief instructions on how to interact, but basically you simply do an amount come natually. It is trully amazing technology and also the usability is impressive.
The physical exercise that you will get is important compared to the othe devices out there. You don't have to hold anything and also the kicking and jumping that you simply do really involves you legs. The other devices simply cannot make use of the legs effectively. The kids need to stop periodically to relax, so you do not have the long periods of them just checking TV and pushing buttons.
A couple of suggestions. If you have a hard floor, ensure that you wear tennis shoes or something like that to lessen the impact when jumping. It is a lot like trying to play tennis barefoot, you need something to cushion the impact. We have a room fully of windows and it has been working fine, even though it does mention you should try to limit the light in the room. I think this is due to the IR emmitter getting wrongly identified as the IR that is natual in sunlight. We are doing the work in a smaller room right now, but will probably move it up to our game room, since some of the games allow 4 people and we simply do not have enough room within the room for four individuals to interact at the same time.
This can be a great tool and I strongly believe that Microsoft includes a hit here. Personally i think sorry for Sony and Nitendo, because this will end up the game of choice. I simply hope they begin to embed this technology to their computers, so we could possibly get more interaction during our work week...
